Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions that protect against viruses, Trojans, worms, hacker attacks, spyware and spam, is inviting all interested parties to participate in the open beta testing of the latest update packages for three of its key antivirus products.

The release of new Maintenance Packs from Kaspersky Lab will mean improvements in effectiveness, reliability and ease of use to Kaspersky® Anti-Virus Personal 5.0, Kaspersky® Anti-Virus Personal Pro 5.0 and Kaspersky® Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 5.0 (with Maintenance Pack 4).

A key improvement of Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0 Maintenance Pack 4 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Pro 5.0 Maintenance Pack 3 is the revised antivirus database updating system. Updates are now smaller in size, helping users to minimize network traffic. The maintenance packs also extend the list of supported archive formats by adding treatment of ICE and LHA archive formats. This offers home users further protection from malicious programs.

Maintenance Pack 4 for Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 5.0 contains improvements that include placing a much smaller burden on PC resources, so that processing power is available for user applications. Maintenance Pack 4 also adds the functionality of a firewall to the system to further protect the workstation. Thus, Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations now protects workstations against network attacks and offers a stealth mode whereby all outside requests for a connection to the PC are blocked, thereby becoming “invisible” to other network users. At the same time, network functionality is not affected.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal and Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Pro are solutions designed to protect personal computers, while Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations protects workstations running under Microsoft Windows. Although these antivirus products possess different functions and varying configuration levels, they also have much in common given that they rely upon the same underlying technologies. Each of the three programs combines unobtrusive operation when set to operate in automatic mode which means they do not interfere with the user's work. They also offer reliable control over all potential infection and penetration, including file operations, data storage and email.

The full list of improvements included in the maintenance packs for all three products are available on the beta testing section of the Kaspersky Lab website. Details regarding the conditions and procedures for participating in Kaspersky Lab's beta testing program are also available here.
